What is Tashkent TV Tower?
The Tashkent TV Tower (Toshkent Teleminorasi) is a world-class feat of late-Soviet structural engineering and an enduring symbol of modern Tashkent. Rising to an astonishing height of 375 meters (1,230 feet), it remains the twelfth tallest tower in the world and the second tallest structure in Central Asia. Equipped with high-speed elevators, an enclosed observation deck at 94 meters, and a two-story revolving restaurant at 104 meters, it grants visitors unobstructed panoramic vistas across the entire capital, the Chirchiq river valley, and the snow-dusted Tien Shan mountain range.
Chronicles & Story
Recognized by the World Federation of Great Towers, the structure's distinct tripod base was specifically engineered to ensure seismic stability. Resting on a heavy concrete foundation, three inclined steel pylons (struts) converge at a height of 100 meters, cradling the central cylindrical stem. At night, the tower illuminates the skyline with dynamic multicolored LED light shows that can be seen from dozens of kilometers away.
Who Created It and Why?
Designed by Soviet engineers Y.L. Semashko and N.G. Terziev-Tsarukov, alongside architects D.Y. Morozov and M.D. Tsaryov. It was built to dramatically expand high-frequency television, radio, and telecommunication relays across the Uzbek SSR while establishing an iconic modernist monument.
Established: Construction began in 1978 following rigorous structural calculations designed to withstand extreme temperature fluctuations and earthquakes up to magnitude 9.0 on the Richter scale. The tower officially commenced operations on January 15, 1985.

The tower is fabricated from high-grade structural steel welded into a lattice tripod. The circular observation and dining deck is clad in floor-to-ceiling glass. The interior foyer is decorated in late-modernist style with monumental mosaic panels crafted from semiprecious stones, marble, and colored smalt by artists A. Burkharbayev and V. Bukharbayev, celebrating the technological union of man, nature, and the cosmos.
